On May 8, 2023, the team of Quantum Technologies GmbH was honored with the renowned AMA Innovation Award at the SMSI 2023 – Sensor and Measurement Science International Conference in Nuremberg. The award is presented annually by the AMA Association for Sensors and Measurement to groundbreaking developments from research and industry.
Why was Quantum Technologies honored?
The development team impressed the jury with a purely optical quantum magnetometer that, as a fiber-coupled magnetic field sensor, sets new standards:
“The measurement method is designed so that the sensor operates without the use of microwaves. Due to its extreme detection sensitivity and wide measurement range, it is suitable for a multitude of applications. We can look forward to the further development of this young company, as well as additional second-generation quantum sensors.”
The development team impressed the jury with a purely optical quantum magnetometer that, as a fiber-coupled magnetic field sensor, sets new standards:
- Precise magnetic field measurement using NV centers in diamond, completely without microwave excitation
- The sensor head is thinner than a human hair, chemically inert, non-magnetic, non-conductive, and galvanically isolated
- The method opens up new applications where previous sensors (e.g., semiconductor) could not be used
- High market relevance due to extreme detection sensitivity and a broad measurement range
